Screenwriting Contests Discussion Forum
Topic: Scriptapalooza?
I'm kind of surprised there's no topic on the results.
Anyone else enter or advance?
I didn't make the cut but congrats to those who did.
Don
I always think about entering this competition, because it has a television competition, but I'm just not sure if it's worth it.
If anyone has had any good experiences with this competition, but hasn't left feedback, then please let me know.
I'm not a frequent poster here (just a reader) and I'm in with one script. I won the TV category for Drama a few years ago and, I will tell you, they were prompt with payment. However, as far as attention (and maybe this is just with TV), I only got one read. But! I'm a firm believer that's it's not up to any contest to make my career, it's up to me! I've used the credibility to my advantage and for networking. My fingers are crossed, but it's awesome just to make the cut.
As a group, we probably have a tendency to trumpet our mini successes moreso than the negative results. I thought about initiating a "losers-only" thread, but was too busy with my own self-loathing and feelings of inadequacy over not advancing in Nicholl et al. Besides, I find it hard to type when I'm wallowing in self-pity and can't read the monitor through all the tears.
Congrats Kate!
No luck for me. I'm 0 for lifetime! I've never advanced in Scriptapalooza. I'm beginning to think my mom runs it. Lol!
I'm done with them -- both the contest and their coverage service. I've never advanced at Scriptapalooza, okay, fine...but all the scripts I've entered got "considers" from their coverage service. So, on the one hand, I'm told my scripts aren't good, and on the other, I'm told that Hollywood should consider them...which is it? It can't be both.
I can't escape the feeling that the "considers" are just their way of getting me to remain a customer.

I wouldn't be so sad about not placing in a contest, especially Nicholl. Thousands of people enter contests and it takes a lot to win, and even those who do win aren't guareenteed success. Not only does your script have to be great but you have to get multiple readers, who more than likely have different tastes, to give your script the thumbs up.
I think this year Nicholl had over 6,000 entries and they only award 5 fellowships. I mean, 5 out of 6,000! Don't feel so sad, just keep writing.
Wow, those are a lot of quaterfinalists, too bad I'm not one of them.
Irin,
And here I thought I was the only one with an 0 for lifetime record.
:D
Don
Thanks, Irin! I promise I've struck out on a lot of these things, too. I have a one sentence e-mail I have from a real director that basically says, good idea, need a different writer. :)
Definitely save that for when you sell something!
Wow, Kate, that's brutal!
No love for me from Scriptapalooza either.
Kate,
I'd use that as my opening line in my thank-you speech when you win an Oscar. :)
