Topic: Question for all about the PAGE contest.
Author: A.L. Jeniins

Kick me in the butt for not digging in deeper and finding the answers, but unfortunately the search engine on this website is a bit dinosauric when it comes to searching the word PAGE. I keep getting people talking about pages and not the contest.
For any and all;
Has anyone ever read about, or heard about, anyone breaking into the industry after placing in the PAGE contest?
Anyone on this board place in the PAGE contest and get any script options or review requests?
Are there any success stories that came through the PAGE contest?
Thank you for the input.

This is the first year that I've made it to the QF's (YAY!!), so I don't have any personal experience -- yet. :) But there's a long list of quotes on the Success Stories pages of their website that you should read through. And a few days ago I read a quote on DoneDealPro from one of last year's winners who has achieved some pretty amazing things because of the PAGE win.
Fingers crossed for all of us still in the running!

I just entered my first screenplay in it and it is a great contest. I don't know how winners fare, but it is very well run and the notes you receive from the judges are incredible. Zoe & her staff are very professional and friendly. I made the first cut but not the Quarters. Congrats to all who did!

I've managed to talk to producers and they all agree they pay attention to those who make the semi's and above just because of the sheer numbers you beat to make it that far.
But I do know that many winners have at least signed with an agent or manager. There are I believe, a couple on this board.

Thanks for the input.
I could not find anyone that broke into the industry as a direct result from placing in the PAGE contest.
There are stories of people that have made it into the industry that have placed in past year, but there was no direct relationship to PAGE.
If anyone has any stories, please post them.
Thanks again.

I don't know if anybody who's actually working in the business follows this forum? If so, they could answer your question better than I. But if you read their success stories pages, in their testimonials many of the Page winners say that they were actually optioned or signed by people who judged for the contest, or they specifically credit Page for what's happened for them:
http://pageawards.com/success-stories/success09/
http://pageawards.com/success-stories/success08/
http://pageawards.com/success-stories/success07/
etc.
I have to say, I love this contest! I only got to the second round this year, but I just got my feedback, and it's awesome. Anybody else get their feedback yet?

(Not that this isn't a great forum, btw! I'm just sayin', if I was a working, successful screenwriter, I probably wouldn't be trolling Moviebytes anymore.)

I'm not sure exactly what your worry is, A.L.? PAGE is a very well-known, legit contest, if that is your concern. According to their winners, they get lots of reads because of winning the contest, and like Jamie says, you just need to read all the testimonials on their website to see all their success stories.
I did find the post on DoneDealPro that I was telling you about, if this helps you? It's under a closed thread called "All contests are scams" (HA!)
"At the risk of coming across as bragging (which is not my intention.... much), following my 2009 Silver Place in Page, the same year I think you yourself entered in (and 2008 when I semi'd and you were in the last ten of ACTION as I remember) and following PAGE's release of the winner list to a select bunch of peeps, I've found representation. A manager who I worked with on the Silver place script before going wide.
Following going wide, We had 7 Prodcos interested in packaging and I've spoken to 13 Execs from VP's to Heads of Development. I'm now up to 9 projects in my inbox to pitch my take on, varying from korean movie adaptation, to IP already at WB and Universal, to a potential Sony video game adaptation (which frankly blew my mind).
We're now on the verge of attaching an actress to the Silver winning script and going after an A-lister (and one of my all time favorite actors) for the co-star and also a Director. Plus potential Graphic Novel to run alongside.
The 2008 Semi-final script mentioned above is now into CAA, Gersh and WMA to read over weekend before being fired out to the 13 execs also mentioned above.
NONE OF THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT PAGE INTERNATIONAL!!
So imagine what Nichol can do! I hate that this post seems like bragging (well....okay. I like it a little ), but I hope it illustrates just how valuable contests can be. If you pick the right ones!
I have never sent a query. Never contacted an agent/manager. EVERYTHING above began and was facilitated by the PAGE Silver award."

It seems like this is one of the few contests that actually CAN help launch your career. At least, I'm hoping so, since we're still in the running this year. :)
If you take a look at their Facebook page, you'll see this post near the top.
CONGRATS!! to Tiffany FitzHenry, whose 2009 PAGE Drama Finalist JERRY AT THE CEMETERY has been optioned by Hana Road Productions. Tiffany writes "I was optioned only after, and because of exposure from, the PAGE Awards." We look forward to seeing your script hit the screen, Tiffany!
